World's Largest Palace!
Many of us as children loved castles and palaces, maybe you still do. The idea of moving around in secret passages, huge rooms, oversized beds, and beautiful grounds to play on... thrilled us. There are many impressive castles and palaces in the world that are breathtaking, intimidating, immense, and seemingly immortal. Today we'll talk about the largest palace on Earth!
When you think of castles or palaces, you might immediately think of the Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria, Germany or you may think of Louis XIV's palace, the Versailles in France. I will most likely discuss those deeply historical places at a later date, don't worry!
Feast your eyes on Istana Nurul Iman!
Located on and island in Southeast Asia, in a tiny sovereign state named Brunei. Istana Nurul Iman means Palace of the Faith Light. This palace completed construction in 1984 and is valued at $1.4 billion USD. The enormous palace is situated on 2 million acres of land, has 1,800 rooms, 110 car garage, air-conditioned stables for horses, and a mosque that can host 1,500 worshippers! This place is open to the public during very few days of the year since this is a private residence of the Sultan of Brunei.

Before I explain more about Istana Nurul Iman, it is important to understand the difference between a castle and a palace. Yes, there is a difference! There is an ongoing discourse about what exactly defines a castle or a palace. But for now it is commonly accepted agreement that castles are primarily a fortress against attacks while palaces are more for residential, business or political purposes. This is not the be-all-end-all explanation but the basics of it... defense vs. leisure.
